Happy Sunday,
it’s me Waldi!
After last week’s e-mail, I’ve been to a nuclear magnetic resonance imaging because of my lower back pain. Disc prolapse is causing the pain. Since then, it got a bit better, but it still varies day by day. Overall, I’m good though, and I get better overall.
I’ve given a workshop on how to work scientifically this weekend which is why today’s newsletter is a bit late. I had a blast and the students liked it as well.
As always, I’ve also published a new blog post which is a tad bit more personal than I normally do. Let me know how you like it!
Now, let’s have a look at today’s bullets!
1. Five Lessons from History
I’ve begun to dig into my vast library of content and found this gem. It’s a very well written article that explains five timeless lessons using historical events. It covers topics like suffering, pushing too far, and why we don’t often notice progress but recognize setbacks almost immediately. It’s a great read!
2. There Will be Pain
I’ve finished this episode of the Jocko Podcast an hour ago and it’s one of the few who I’ve favorite immediately. Jocko’s guest, Mike Day, was horribly abused as a child, hit by 27 bullets in a matter of minutes during one of his deployments, survived but later almost killed himself. Now, he tries to help people live better lives. It’s an amazing, dark, but real story. Listen to it.
3. Mindset for the COVID-Crisis
I’ve enjoyed this article by Ryan Holiday about what we can learn from John D. Rockefeller’s mindset.
4. JRE #1411 Robert Downey Jr.
I really enjoyed Ironman talking to Joe Rogan… erm… I mean Robert Downey Jr.
5. A Guide by an Astronaut
Over the last few years, I’ve had this weird idea to read a book about astronauts. A few weeks ago I finally ordered one. It’s great.
6. Tiago Forte on Notes
I took a few insights away from this short interview with Tiago Forte on Note-Taking.
7. Daily Walks
Finally, I’ve begun walking 10 000 steps every day since my lower back pain worsened. It helps tremendously. I highly recommend it.
That’s it for this week! I hope you found something valuable.
Until next week!
