Happy Sunday,
it’s me Waldi!
This morning I’ve walked through the woods up to a tower with a great view. I haven’t hit my daily exercise goal of 10 000 steps per day in the last three days. So, this morning I’ve decided to begin anew.
In some way, this is what we can always do when we’ve fallen off the meaningful path: begin anew. Let this be your call to action: if there’s something you wanted to do for a while begin anew.
Here are this week’s bullets for you!
1. Mark Manson on Struggle and Meaning
Happiness requires struggle.
Without struggle, the world would lack meaning and our joys would feel empty.
Be grateful for your struggles, because within them is the constant opportunity for purpose.
2. New Tool I’m Using
It’s a great tool for highlighting on webpages. It gathers those highlights automatically in a separate document which allows me to easily copy and paste them into my RoamResearch database. No more copy-pasting while reading an article! Yay!
3. Song On Repeat
4. Book I’m Excited About
Lives of the Stoics: The Art of Living from Zeno to Marcus Aurelius.
Ryan Holiday is known for The Daily Stoic and many books about Stoicism. He’s the main reason that I’ve adopted parts of this philosophy in my own life and I’m very excited to open another chapter (or book) which seems like a compilation of his past works! I don’t usually pre-order. But I’ve pre-ordered this one.
5. Tolstoy’s 10 Rules for Life at the Age of 18
Get up early (five o’clock)
Go to bed early (nine to ten o’clock)
Eat little and avoid sweets
Try to do everything by yourself
Have a goal for your whole life, a goal for one section of your life, a goal for a shorter period and a goal for the year; a goal for every month, a goal for every week, a goal for every day a goal for every hour, and for every minute, and sacrifice the lesser goal to the greater
Keep away from women
Kill desire by work
Be good but try to let no one know it
Always live less expensively than you might
Change nothing in your style of living even if you become ten times richer
6. The Best Advice on Writing I Know
There’s a lot of writing advice out there. Yet, this short post by Scott Adams is among the best - if not the best advice I know on how to write better.
7. Blog I Enjoy Reading
I’ve come across Nat when I learned how to use RoamResearch. I was pleasantly surprised that his blog has great content on philosophy, marketing, psychology, health, and more. It’s full of interesting information and wise words.
That’s it for this week! I hope you found something valuable.
Until next week!
- Waldi
